Vinyl Siding Warranty Denied: Another Real Consumer Complaint

Here’s yet another example of vinyl siding manufacturers refusing to stand behind their warranty claims. This case comes straight from a complaint posted on the Consumer Affairs website against a major vinyl siding manufacturer.

From Storm Damage to Staining Problems

In 2011, a tornado destroyed the original siding on this homeowner’s property. After repairs, the homeowner installed brand-new vinyl siding, expecting years of reliable performance.

Five years later, greasy stains began running down the backside of the siding. Determined to fix the problem, the homeowner followed the manufacturer’s cleaning instructions exactly.

Cleaning Didn’t Work—Even After Five Attempts

The homeowner cleaned the siding five separate times using:

  • TSP and Tide

  • A car wash brush

  • The manufacturer’s recommended process

Despite repeated efforts, the greasy stains never disappeared. A company representative eventually visited the home and even attempted to clean the siding using 409, which is widely considered an industry no-no for vinyl siding.

Warranty Claim Process Adds Insult to Injury

To continue the warranty review, the homeowner had to remove a two-foot section of siding and ship it to the manufacturer—at their own expense.

After all that, the manufacturer denied the warranty claim, stating the staining resulted from “elements in the air” and was not covered under the warranty.

Why Vinyl Siding Falls Short

This case highlights a recurring issue with vinyl siding:

  • Staining that cannot be removed

  • Costly and time-consuming claim processes

  • Warranty exclusions that leave homeowners unprotected

When problems arise, vinyl siding warranties often shift responsibility back to the homeowner.
