Unless you have been living under a rock or haven’t been watching television for the past 10 years you have probably seen companies advertising products that when sprayed on the outside of your home will make the exterior of the building so durable that it will be able to handle anything and everything that mother nature can throw at it all while looking beautiful for years and years. Or at least 25 years, that’s how long they claim the warranty is.
Well research by MAXWALLPRO finds that this coating is nothing more than a fancier version of elastomeric paint. Elastomeric paint is designed for use on masonry and concrete construction to prevent water from penetrating into building interiors. This flexible film covers and hides hairline cracks, making uniform pin-hole-free jobs easier and faster to achieve. They claim they have developed a technology with regards to long lasting ceramic elastomeric coatings. I guess this product is necessary for stucco but with regards to covering and protecting wood is it the best? As for the 25 years warranty that is tossed around, we still have to wait approximately 15 years to see if the product is standing up to their claims. In a future blog I will go into a little greater detail as to what is making their product a little fancier, and sadly it isn’t much.
